Our family's perfect day

Forget the tour codes. Your park ticket already covers every panoramic train and electric boat — so here is the full loop we send our own guests on. Give it six to seven unhurried hours and let the lakes set the pace.

  • Beat the crowd — coaches roll in around 10:00; from our door you're already on the boardwalks by 08:30.
  • Don't miss Tomićevo pogledalo — a 20-minute climb crowns the Upper Lakes with a viewpoint (opened 2024, 685 m up) that opens over Prošćansko — the park's second-largest lake — and the whole silver chain below.
  • Good shoes on the boardwalks, please — and no swimming, no drones. The lakes are protected.
  • Finish on the water — hire a wooden rowboat on Lake Kozjak straight from dock P1: up to four aboard, €15 an hour, every day 10:00–15:00 through the warm season. There is no calmer way to close the day.

The route we'd walk with you

  1. Stroll down to Entrance 2on foot
  2. Panoramic train down toward the Lower LakesSt2 → St1
  3. Veliki slap & the Lower Lakes canyonon foot

  6. Climb the Upper Lakes to the top & the viewpointon foot
  7. Panoramic train down, then the gentle stroll home to Villa MukinjaSt3 → St2

Every leg is covered by your park ticket — around 6–7 hours at an easy pace. Shorten it anywhere you like; St2 is never far.

Good to know

Your questions, answered

Which entrance is best for visiting Plitvice Lakes?

Entrance 2 is the quickest way to the Upper Lakes and Lake Kozjak — and it's a 10-minute walk from Villa Mukinja. Entrance 1 sits by the Lower Lakes canyon and the Great Waterfall (Veliki slap), about 5 minutes away by car.

How many hours do you need for Plitvice Lakes?

The shorter loops take 2–4 hours; seeing both the Upper and Lower Lakes comfortably takes 4–6 hours. Staying overnight nearby lets you walk in at opening time and split the park over two relaxed days.

Do I need to buy Plitvice tickets in advance?

In summer, yes — buy online at np-plitvicka-jezera.hr, because time slots sell out. Ticket sales end at 17:00, and entrances are open 07:00–20:00 in high season.

How much does Plitvice Lakes entry cost?

Prices are seasonal: roughly €10 in winter, €23.50 in shoulder season and €40 in the summer peak. The panoramic train and electric boats are included in your ticket.

Can you swim in Plitvice Lakes?

No — swimming is forbidden everywhere in the park to protect the travertine lakes. The nearest cool-off is our outdoor hot tub, which is admittedly warmer.

Is Plitvice Lakes worth visiting in winter?

Absolutely — the park is open 365 days a year. In winter you'll see frozen waterfalls and snow-quiet forests at the year's lowest ticket price; usually the Lower Lakes route stays open.

How do I avoid the crowds at Plitvice?

Enter before 09:00 — tour buses arrive around 10:00. Sleeping in Mukinje village means you can be at Entrance 2 minutes after breakfast, ahead of the day-trip wave.

Are dogs allowed in Plitvice Lakes National Park?

Yes, dogs are welcome on a leash throughout the park.
